Important Facts and Dates:

Crestwood
Middle School

As term three begins, I want to thank our students and staff for creating a wonderful environment for teaching and learning.  Crestwood Middle School is indeed fortunate to have adults and youngsters that demonstrate caring attitudes and that strive for success.

Congratulations go out to Catie Sexton.  Catie, an 8th grader was recently honored at the FCPS’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration.  Each school in the system had the opportunity to choose a youngster that most exemplifies the characteristics of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Crestwood Middle School’s choice was based on Catie’s service to her school/community and her stellar academic record.  We are proud of her selection.

Parent conferences will be held on Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2.  Sign-ups for these conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February 18.  Please see further instructions and details of the conferences on a separate letter in this newsletter.  I hope that all of our parents will take advantage of this  opportunity to dialogue with our teachers.

The Maryland State Assessment will begin on Monday, March 8 and conclude on Friday, March 12.  We continue to be pleased with the progress our students are making towards the goal of everyone being proficient by 2014.  Testing will take place each morning of that week with the exception of Wednesday.  A modified class schedule will be in place to accommodate the tests.  Parents are asked to not plan any routine appointments during this  testing window.  Students should also get a good night’s rest and have a nutritious breakfast before the test.  Our generous PTA will be supplying snacks to our students on test days.  Their generosity is really appreciated.

Many transition activities are occurring during February and March.  Please look carefully at the dates to  remember section to see when transition meetings are being held for students and parents.  Registration letters will be coming to homes in February.  Please pay attention to deadlines in order to help your child get the courses he/she chooses.

We recently received a check for $280.00 from Boxtops.  Your generosity in helping our school secure this funding is so     appreciated.  Keep sending in those Boxtops with your child.
